Tue Nov 26 18:21:28 UTC 2024: ## Free Resources Launched to Help Domestic Violence Survivors

**Chennai, November 27, 2024** – A collaborative effort spearheaded by the British Academy has released free resources to aid women experiencing domestic violence. Graphic booklets and short videos, available in English, Tamil, Hindi, and Bengali, offer guidance on surviving abusive situations. These materials, downloadable from http://www.survivingviolence.org, are intended for both individual use and the work of NGOs.

The initiative, launched at an online meeting Monday, is the culmination of a two-year project involving interviews with 180 survivors. Researchers identified key issues, including instances where families blamed victims and encouraged tolerance of abuse, alongside cases of familial support. The videos were specifically created in low resolution to facilitate easy sharing via social media. The project also documented public portrayals of domestic violence through photography.

The research, funded by the British Academy’s Heritage, Dignity, and Violence program (2020-2022), involved women from diverse urban, semi-urban, and rural settings. The project aims to provide practical support and raise awareness about domestic violence.
