LOS ANGELES – AMC Theatres, the world’s largest movie theater chain, announced its highest-ever domestic revenue for a pre-Thanksgiving weekend, exceeding previous records by a significant margin. The success was fueled by the simultaneous release of “Wicked” and “Gladiator 2,” which drew in massive crowds.

The three-day weekend saw not only record-high overall revenue (including admissions, food, and merchandise), but also the highest domestic admissions revenue since 2019 and the third-highest ever for a pre-Thanksgiving weekend in AMC’s 104-year history. A combined 4.6 million moviegoers attended AMC and Odeon Cinemas (its UK counterpart) from Thursday to Sunday. Domestically, the weekend generated an estimated $205 million.

AMC CEO Adam Aron expressed his delight, stating the strong performance sets the stage for a busy holiday movie season. He specifically highlighted the success of “Wicked,” noting that AMC’s merchandise, including themed popcorn buckets, sold out mid-weekend. Aron also announced that select AMC locations will begin showing “Wicked” singalong screenings in late December.

Aron praised both “Wicked” and “Gladiator 2” for their quality and marketing, emphasizing the continued appeal of the theatrical experience. Odeon Cinemas also reported its highest single-day revenue for 2024 on Saturday. Looking ahead, the upcoming release of “Moana 2” is expected to further boost attendance.
