Tue Nov 26 20:58:06 UTC 2024: ## Yogi Adityanath Condemns Congress for “Tampering” with Constitution’s Preamble

**Lucknow, India** – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Constitution Day, accusing it of “strangling” the Constitution by adding the words “secular” and “socialist” to the Preamble. His remarks followed the Supreme Court’s dismissal of petitions challenging the 1976 amendment that introduced these terms.

Adityanath asserted that the original Constitution, drafted under B.R. Ambedkar’s leadership, did not contain these words and claimed the Congress inserted them during the Emergency. He hailed the Supreme Court’s decision as a rejection of the Congress’s actions, stating that the people had “delivered a fitting lesson” to those who betrayed the Constitution.

The Chief Minister lauded the Constitution’s strength and comprehensiveness, crediting Ambedkar with building a unified India. He emphasized the importance of Constitution Day as a reminder of India’s democratic values and highlighted Ambedkar’s role in incorporating principles of justice, equality, and fraternity into the document.

Adityanath further criticized the Congress for eroding public faith in the Constitution through its actions and contrasted this with the BJP government’s efforts to restore and strengthen the Constitution’s core values. He stressed that the soul of the Constitution lies in its objectives and principles, and that the public holds accountable those who attempt to undermine it. The Chief Minister concluded by urging the legislature, executive, and judiciary to uphold the spirit of the Constitution as reflected in the debates of the Constituent Assembly.
