**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Sixteen years ago, on November 26, 2008, Mumbai was the target of a devastating terrorist attack that shocked the world. Over four days, ten Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists launched coordinated attacks on iconic locations including the Taj and Oberoi Hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST), Nariman House, and Leopold Cafe. The carefully chosen targets, popular with both locals and international tourists, resulted in the deaths of 166 people and injuries to 300 more.

The siege, which lasted until November 29th, saw fierce fighting between terrorists and security forces. The bravery of police officers and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos was instrumental in neutralizing the attackers and ending the threat. However, the attacks claimed the lives of 18 security personnel, including prominent figures such as ATS chief Hemant Karkare and Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who displayed exceptional courage during the rescue operations at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla led tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial today, marking the somber anniversary and remembering the victims and heroes of 26/11. The attacks left an enduring scar on Mumbai and India, serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism.
