Tue Nov 26 07:15:47 UTC 2024: **Congress to Launch Nationwide Campaign for Caste Census**

Chandigarh: The Congress party will launch a nationwide campaign, “Bharat Jodo Samvidhan Abhiyan,” next week to demand a caste census and criticize the BJP government’s alleged favoritism towards industrialists, senior Congress leader Ajay Singh Yadav announced Wednesday.

The campaign, starting November 26th – the 75th anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar presenting the Constitution – and running until January 26th, will be spearheaded by the party’s SC, ST, OBC, and minority wings. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi will participate in the launch at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium.

Yadav, chairman of the AICC’s OBC wing, accused the BJP of neglecting social justice by refusing to conduct a caste census, despite regularly surveying other populations like wildlife. He further alleged that the BJP government benefits a small group of industrialists who control significant national assets. The campaign will involve seminars across the country to raise awareness about these issues.

Yadav also offered some internal analysis of the Congress’s recent electoral setbacks in Haryana, citing insufficient OBC representation in candidate selections, the absence of senior leader Kumari Selja during campaigning, and premature projection of potential chief ministerial candidates as contributing factors.
