**Sagar, MP:** Over 21,000 residents of Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, participated in a massive rally on Monday, demanding the posthumous award of the Bharat Ratna to Dr. Hari Singh Gour, a renowned philanthropist and educationist. This marks the largest single demonstration in 44 years advocating for this recognition.
The rally, which saw participation from all age groups, began at the Gaur statue at Teenbatti and concluded at the university’s Gaur statue, highlighting the widespread support for the cause. Local leaders, including ministers, MLAs, the Mayor, and the university Vice-Chancellor, voiced their unwavering support for the demand.
Minister Govind Singh Rajput lauded the efforts, emphasizing the deep connection Sagar residents have with Dr. Gour. MP Dr. Lata Vankahede reiterated her commitment to raising the issue in Parliament, while other representatives pledged to pursue the matter with the Chief Minister and Prime Minister’s offices. They confirmed plans to send delegations to Bhopal and Delhi to lobby for the award.
The rally organizers stated that the campaign will continue until the demand is met, demonstrating the unwavering resolve of Sagar’s citizens to honor Dr. Gour’s legacy with India’s highest civilian award. The event also served as an educational opportunity, especially for school children who learned more about Dr. Gour’s contributions. Local BJP leaders also pledged their support for the initiative, promising to forward a formal proposal to the government.
