Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Yadadri districts in Telangana are experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, with lows dipping below 14°C in Nalgonda and Yadadri and below 16°C in Suryapet on Monday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning of further temperature decreases in the coming three days, with temperatures potentially falling below 14°C across the region.
This significant drop marks a departure from the average minimum temperatures recorded in these districts in previous years. For instance, Nalgonda’s average minimum temperature for 2023 was 22.3°C, while Suryapet and Yadadri recorded averages of 23°C and 21.3°C respectively. The current temperatures are considerably lower than the averages recorded even during the typically colder months of November, December, and January. Compared to the expected temperatures for November 25th, a drop of 1.7°C was observed in Nalgonda, 2°C in Suryapet, and 1.6°C in Yadadri.
Health officials are advising residents to take precautions against the cold. They recommend avoiding unnecessary outdoor travel during early mornings, evenings, and nights, and suggest taking necessary precautions if travel is unavoidable. The yellow alert serves as a reminder for residents to be prepared for the continuing cold spell.
