Mon Nov 25 08:40:00 UTC 2024: ## India Achieves Historic Victory in Perth Test, Winning by 295 Runs

**Perth, Australia:** In a stunning upset, India has secured a resounding 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. This marks India’s largest ever Test win by runs on Australian soil, surpassing their previous record of 222 runs in Melbourne in 1977.

The match saw an incredible comeback from India after they were bowled out for a paltry 150 in their first innings. Captain Jasprit Bumrah, named Player of the Match for his eight wickets across both innings, led the charge. Bumrah’s five-wicket haul in Australia’s first innings, supported by debutant Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj, restricted the home side to a meager 104 runs, giving India a crucial 46-run lead.

India’s second innings was dominated by Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and Virat Kohli (100), who both scored centuries, along with a significant contribution from KL Rahul (77). This stellar batting performance propelled India to a declared 487/6, setting Australia a challenging 534-run target.

Australia’s chase faltered from the start. Debutant Nathan McSweeney was dismissed for a duck, and the team struggled throughout, eventually succumbing to 238 runs in their second innings. Bumrah, Siraj (3 wickets each), and Washington Sundar (2 wickets) were the chief destroyers in the Australian second innings. The win also maintains the Optus Stadium tradition of the team winning the toss and batting first also securing the match victory.

This victory gives India a commanding 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second Test begins in Adelaide on December 6th.
