**Rajkot, India –** Hyderabad’s Tilak Varma etched his name into cricket history, smashing a record-breaking 151 runs off just 67 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) opener against Meghalaya. This incredible innings, featuring 14 fours and 10 sixes (a strike rate of 225.37), makes him the first cricketer, male or female, to score three consecutive T20 centuries. The feat surpasses even Kiran Navgire’s 162 for Maharashtra in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy in 2022.
Varma’s performance also set a new high score for the SMAT, eclipsing Shreyas Iyer’s previous record of 147. This achievement follows his Player of the Series award in the recent South Africa series, where he scored two centuries (107* and 120*). He is also the first Indian male player to score 150+ runs in a T20 match.
The 22-year-old batsman, retained by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the upcoming IPL mega auction, has consistently impressed. In 38 IPL matches for MI, he has accumulated 1156 runs at an average of 39.86. His strong performance in the SMAT further solidifies his position as one of India’s rising stars in T20 cricket.
