Fri Nov 22 18:14:12 UTC 2024: ## Trump Nominates Pam Bondi for Attorney General
**Washington D.C.** – Donald Trump has nominated Pam Bondi, former Florida Attorney General, to serve as U.S. Attorney General. This comes after his initial choice, Matt Gaetz, withdrew his name from consideration amidst a federal sex trafficking investigation and ethics probe.
Bondi, a longtime Trump ally, has been a vocal supporter of the former president, appearing on Fox News and at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Her history with Trump includes serving on his transition team and as chairwoman of the America First Policy Institute.
During her time as Florida’s Attorney General (2011-2019), Bondi focused on human trafficking and challenged the Affordable Care Act. She also faced criticism for delaying an execution to avoid conflict with a fundraiser and for her office’s decision not to sue Trump University following a $25,000 donation from Trump’s foundation to her political committee. Both Trump and Bondi denied any wrongdoing in that matter.
Since leaving office, Bondi has worked as a lobbyist, representing clients including General Motors and foreign governments. She also served on Trump’s legal team during his first impeachment trial. Recently, she has been a staunch defender of Trump against ongoing criminal investigations.
Bondi’s nomination is highly controversial. Democrats express concern that she would be overly influenced by Trump and use the Justice Department to pursue his political agenda, while Republicans anticipate her loyalty to the former president. Her confirmation by the Senate remains uncertain and will be closely scrutinized, particularly given Trump’s past efforts to influence the Justice Department. If confirmed, Bondi would inherit a department facing numerous challenges, including ongoing investigations into the January 6th Capitol riot and potential pardons for those involved.
