Sat Nov 23 05:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Lake Lure Recovers Slowly After Hurricane Helene’s Devastation

**Lake Lure, NC** – Two months after Hurricane Helene inflicted historic damage on the town of Lake Lure, businesses are gradually reopening and residents are working towards normalcy. The hurricane caused widespread destruction, including submerging the boat dock, sweeping away canoes, and even crashing a boat into a boathouse, according to Councilman Jim Proctor.

Fae Nectar, a local business, suffered significant property damage despite its building remaining intact. Owner Tom Halladay reported the complete washout of their riverfront property and seawall, but assures customers they are open for business on Fridays and Saturdays, urging visitors to witness the town’s recovery efforts. Halladay says cleanup efforts are ongoing, with an estimated one to two more weeks of work needed.

Town Manager Olivia Stewman confirmed that the boil water advisory and no-flush order have been lifted, with sewer service restored to all but about 20 customers. The town is actively addressing long-term solutions for the sewer system and dam. Debris removal remains a major focus, with Proctor highlighting the remarkable community and nationwide support in the cleanup process.

Sadly, the popular Flowering Bridge sustained irreparable damage and will likely be demolished. The town encourages residents and visitors to monitor its website for updates on the ongoing recovery efforts.
