**NASSAU, Bahamas** – The No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers handed the Virginia Cavaliers their first loss of the season, defeating them 64-42 in the Baha Mar Hoops Championship Thursday night. Virginia struggled offensively, shooting a dismal 29 percent from the field and committing 18 turnovers.
Despite a poor shooting performance in the first half, Virginia stayed close, trailing by only one point (22-21) at halftime thanks to a late surge. However, Tennessee dominated the second half, going on multiple significant scoring runs. A 17-5 burst early in the second half gave the Volunteers a comfortable lead, and they later extended their advantage with a 22-3 run and an 18-0 run, effectively sealing the victory.
Dai Dai Ames led Virginia with a team-high six points in the first half and contributed additional points in the second, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Tennessee’s strong performance and Virginia’s high turnover count.
Virginia will now face No. 22 St. John’s in the consolation game on Friday at 7 p.m.
