**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Varun Sardesai of the Shiv Sena (UBT) is leading in the Vandre East constituency in Mumbai’s Maharashtra Assembly elections, significantly ahead of NCP candidate Zeeshan Siddique. With over 12 rounds of counting completed, Sardesai holds a lead of over 7,000 votes, securing nearly 43,000 votes compared to Siddique’s 36,000. MNS candidate Truptti Bala Sawant is a distant third with approximately 14,000 votes.
Siddique, son of the late politician Baba Siddique, recently joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP. His campaign was marked by accusations against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance following his father’s assassination. Previously a Congress member, Siddique won the Vandre East seat in 2019 but was expelled from the party earlier this year.
The Vandre East results are part of a larger election update, with vote counting underway for Maharashtra Assembly elections, Jharkhand Assembly elections, and by-polls across 15 states. All results are expected to be declared today.
