Fri Nov 22 15:37:50 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka High Court Orders CBI to Detail Probe into Multi-Crore Misappropriation

**Bengaluru, November 22, 2024** – The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide details of its investigation into the multi-crore misappropriation of funds from the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd.

The case stems from a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Union Bank of India (UBI) in June, alleging that crores of rupees were transferred from the corporation’s account to various other accounts. The misappropriated amount is believed to exceed ₹50 crore, prompting the bank to file the FIR with the CBI as per Reserve Bank of India mandate.

The petition before the High Court was filed by BJP leaders Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, Ramesh Jarkiholi, Arvind Limbavali, and Kumar Bangarappa, who argued that the CBI had failed to initiate a proper investigation despite the FIR being registered months ago. Their advocate, Venkatesh Dalwai, cited a Supreme Court verdict on the need for High Court monitoring of certain investigations.

The CBI’s Special Public Prosecutor, P. Prasanna Kumar, explained that the agency had been awaiting the High Court’s decision on a separate petition by UBI seeking the transfer of a state police FIR related to the same misappropriation. He stated that the CBI investigation has now commenced following the High Court’s November 13th rejection of UBI’s petition.

The High Court adjourned further hearing on the petition until December 12th.
