Fri Nov 22 15:28:41 UTC 2024: ## Thoothukudi Mayor Highlights Drainage Improvements, Addresses Waterlogging Concerns

**THOOOTHUKUDI, INDIA (November 22, 2024)** – Thoothukudi Mayor N.P. Jegan announced that the city’s drainage system is largely effective, preventing waterlogging in most of its 60 wards. Speaking at a grievance redressal event where orders were issued for nine resolved petitions from a recent camp, Mayor Jegan highlighted the corporation’s commitment to addressing citizen concerns. He noted that 27 petitions were received at a camp on November 20th.

However, the Mayor acknowledged ongoing water stagnation issues in areas like Rajiv Nagar and Teachers Colony. He attributed these problems to ongoing drainage work and the presence of vacant spaces (20-30% of the total area) where rainwater accumulates. Furthermore, he cited plastic waste clogging stormwater drains as a significant contributing factor.

Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan and Deputy Mayor S. Jenita were also present at the event. The Mayor emphasized the regular, ward-wise grievance redressal camps conducted by the corporation.
