Sat Nov 23 09:37:26 UTC 2024: ## Thackeray Jr. Leads in Worli as BJP-led Coalition Takes Early Lead in Maharashtra Assembly Elections

**Mumbai, [Date]** – Early trends in the Maharashtra Assembly elections show Aditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, maintaining his lead in the Worli constituency. He is currently ahead of his challenger, Milind Deora, who recently defected from the Congress to join the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena. Thackeray, the incumbent MLA, secured over 69% of the vote in 2019.

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance has established a significant early advantage, leading in 121 seats by 9:30 am, according to the Election Commission’s count of postal ballots. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is currently leading in 27 seats. The counting process, which began at 8 am, includes results for the Jharkhand Assembly elections and by-polls across 15 states.

This election marks a significant moment for the Thackeray family, as Aditya is the first to contest an assembly election. His grandfather, Bal Thackeray, father Uddhav Thackeray, and uncle Raj Thackeray, all prominent figures in Maharashtra politics, never did so. His cousin, Amit Thackeray, is also contesting these elections. Deora, meanwhile, hails from another prominent political family, being the son of Congress stalwart Murli Deora.

The contest between the ruling Mahayuti and the MVA is keenly watched, with the outcome expected to shape the political landscape of Maharashtra. The counting process is expected to continue through multiple rounds.
