**Mumbai, November 23, 2024** – Vote counting for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections is underway, with results expected to emerge within the next few hours. Both states witnessed closely contested elections, with high voter turnout.
In Maharashtra, the ruling Mahayuti alliance (BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP) and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP)) are eagerly awaiting the outcome. The state saw a 66.05% voter turnout, a significant increase from the 2019 elections. Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam attributed this rise to the Election Commission’s focused efforts to improve voter participation, particularly in Mumbai.
Jharkhand also saw its assembly election results being counted today alongside bypolls in 48 assembly constituencies and two Lok Sabha seats across 15 states. Both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the JMM-led alliance are awaiting the results.
Security has been heightened at counting centers across both states. The Election Commission has expressed gratitude for the participation of nearly six lakh officers and employees who worked to ensure a smooth voting process.
