Sat Nov 23 00:54:49 UTC 2024: ## Ambitious but Unfocused: Vishwak Sen’s “Mechanic Rocky” Fails to Deliver
HYDERABAD, INDIA – Vishwak Sen’s latest film, “Mechanic Rocky,” a multi-genre effort blending action, comedy, romance, and thriller, has opened to mixed reviews. While the film boasts a promising premise centered around a mechanic (Sen) fighting to save his father’s garage amidst a life insurance payout and local goon interference, it ultimately falls short of its potential, critics say.
Directed by debutant Raviteja Mullapudi, the film’s ambitious attempt to juggle multiple genres results in a disjointed narrative. The first half, described as template-driven and lacking in impact, features forced action sequences and forgettable songs that detract from the central plot. While Sen delivers a committed performance, his portrayal sometimes feels uneven. However, strong supporting performances from Meenakshi Chaudhary and particularly Shraddha Srinath help elevate the film. Unfortunately, other supporting actors remain underutilized.
Though the second half shows some improvement with increased intrigue, a predictable climax and cliché musical numbers drag the film back to mediocrity. The film’s runtime, exceeding two hours, is also criticized for feeling unnecessarily long, especially the first half.
Despite a promising core narrative, “Mechanic Rocky” suffers from a cluttered screenplay and unfocused direction. Reviewers suggest that a tighter script and more precise direction could have transformed the film into a compelling thriller. The film received a 2.5 out of 5-star rating.
