Sat Nov 23 15:28:53 UTC 2024: ## NCP’s Sana Malik Wins Maiden Election, Defeating Swara Bhasker’s Husband Amidst EVM Allegations
**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Sana Malik, daughter of veteran NCP politician Nawab Malik, secured a victory in her first electoral contest, defeating Fahad Ahmad, husband of Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker, in the Anushaktinagar constituency. Malik, an architect and lawyer, won by a margin of nearly 3,400 votes.
Ahmad, a former Samajwadi Party member and NCP (Sharad Pawar) candidate, alleged electoral manipulation, claiming a sudden shift in the lead after round 16 of the vote count. He pointed to the 99% charge remaining on the EVMs, echoing concerns raised by the Congress party during recent Haryana elections, and demanded a recount.
The Anushaktinagar seat, a traditional stronghold of Nawab Malik, saw the NCP field Sana Malik following recent legal troubles that impacted her father’s standing. Nawab Malik, currently out on bail in a money laundering case linked to Dawood Ibrahim, is facing separate election challenges and is currently trailing in his own contest. He won the seat in 2009 and 2019.
Ahmad, an Aligarh Muslim University alumnus and active student politician, joined the NCP (Sharad Pawar) in October. His campaign and the close contest highlight the complex political landscape in Maharashtra. The Election Commission is yet to respond to Ahmad’s allegations.
