**Aurangabad, Maharashtra –** In a closely contested election, the BJP’s Atul Save has defeated AIMIM’s sitting MLA Imtiaz Jaleel in the Aurangabad East Assembly constituency. Unofficial results show Save winning by a margin of approximately 2,100 votes. While the Election Commission website has yet to officially confirm the results, Jaleel’s son, Bilal Jaleel, has confirmed his father’s defeat.
The race remained incredibly tight throughout the day, with both candidates taking the lead at different stages of the vote count. The constituency, while recently renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, retains its previous name in electoral records.
This victory represents a significant setback for the AIMIM, who had previously held the seat. The result comes just days after Jaleel alleged bogus voting in the constituency, presenting videos to the press and calling for an investigation. The Maharashtra Assembly elections were held on Wednesday, with counting taking place on Saturday.
