Sat Nov 23 02:14:19 UTC 2024: ## Jugsalai Assembly Seat Witnesses Close Three-Cornered Contest in Jharkhand Elections
**JAMSHEDPUR, Jharkhand –** The first phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections concluded with a closely contested battle for the Jugsalai seat. Voting, which took place on November 13th, saw a three-way fight primarily between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU), and the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM). While JMM and AJSU are the main contenders in most areas, including the Jugsalai municipality, the outcome remains uncertain until the counting of votes on November 23rd.
Supporters of all three major parties are confidently predicting victory for their respective candidates. However, their claims are based on differing interpretations of the voting trends.
AJSU supporters believe their candidate, Ramchandra Sahis, will win due to JMM’s internal divisions. They claim that rebel JMM candidates, Biplab Bhuyan and Jugal Kishor Mukhi, significantly eroded JMM’s traditional vote bank in areas like Bodam and Patamda, pushing JMM’s candidate Mangal Kalindi to third place.
Conversely, JMM supporters argue that it is AJSU that will finish third. They point to JLKM candidate Vinod Swansi’s election symbol, a pair of scissors, as having cut into AJSU’s traditional vote share. Furthermore, they highlight the impact of a rebel BJP candidate, Vimal Beitha, who they believe siphoned off BJP votes, weakening AJSU’s position across 35 panchayats.
JLKM supporters, however, are the most optimistic. They believe that a large rally held by their party supremo, Jayram Mahato, in Bodam, generated significant momentum. They claim widespread support from Kurmi (80,000 votes), Pan, Tanti, and Swansi communities, along with other backward classes, minorities, and educated unemployed youth, will secure their candidate’s victory. They also believe their symbol has harmed both the JMM and AJSU.
Regardless of the conflicting claims, the actual outcome will only be known after the vote count on November 23rd. The result will determine whether Mangal Kalindi (JMM) will retain his seat, Ramchandra Sahis (AJSU) will achieve a significant upset, or Vinod Swansi (JLKM) will secure a breakthrough victory. The wait is on.
