Sat Nov 23 01:34:00 UTC 2024: **Jharkhand Assembly Election Results 2024: NDA and INDIA Alliance Vie for Power**
RANCHI, INDIA – The counting of votes for the Jharkhand Assembly elections is underway, with results expected later today, November 23rd. The two-phased election, held on November 13th and 20th, saw a 67.74% voter turnout, with female voters outnumbering male voters.
The election saw a close contest between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led INDIA alliance and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Exit polls offered conflicting predictions, with some favoring the NDA and others predicting a win for the INDIA alliance, or even a hung assembly. Prominent leaders from both alliances campaigned extensively, focusing on issues of corruption, infiltration, and welfare schemes.
Before the vote count, the JMM requested the Election Commission to suspend internet services within a two-kilometer radius of counting centers, citing concerns about BJP deploying out-of-state electronic experts. The Congress party also appointed six observers to monitor the counting process.
A total of 1,211 candidates contested the election for 81 assembly seats. Key figures whose fates are being closely watched include Chief Minister Hemant Soren (JMM), his wife Kalpana Soren, and Leader of the Opposition Amar Kumar Baury (BJP).
The Election Commission has assured a transparent counting process with strong security measures in place. The results will determine whether the JMM-led alliance retains power or if the BJP-led NDA will form the next government. Initial trends are expected to emerge by 9:00 AM.
