**CHENNAI, November 22, 2024** – The driver responsible for the death of O. Pratheep Kumar, a 39-year-old television journalist and part-time bike taxi rider, has been arrested. V. Selvakumar, 20, surrendered to police on Friday and confessed to driving the luxury car that struck Kumar’s motorcycle on Wednesday, November 20th.
The accident occurred on the Tambaram-Maduravoyal Bypass Road. The impact of the collision killed Kumar instantly. The car, registered to Madras Concrete Products, stopped due to a burst tire, and the driver initially fled the scene. Police initially believed another individual, Murali, was driving, but Selvakumar’s confession revealed the truth.
Selvakumar, who is related to the car’s owner, has been charged under Sections 106 (Causing Death by Negligence) and 281 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He is currently being interrogated and will be remanded. The investigation is ongoing.
Kumar, originally from Nagari in Andhra Pradesh, is survived by his wife and five-year-old daughter.
