Fri Nov 22 20:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Severe Storms and Flooding Threaten New Orleans Tonight

**New Orleans, LA** – The New Orleans metro area is bracing for severe weather tonight, with a high risk of tornadoes, heavy rain, and significant flooding. A cold front colliding with lingering moisture from former Tropical Storm Sara is creating a potent weather system.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch until noon Tuesday, warning of potential rainfall totals exceeding 1-2 inches in most areas, with some locations possibly seeing up to 4 inches or more. The greatest threat of severe weather, including isolated tornadoes, is expected until around 2 AM. A marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe storms is in effect for most of the region.

In addition to the heavy rainfall, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect overnight due to strong southeast winds interacting with high tide. A Small Craft Advisory is also in place through Tuesday because of choppy seas caused by the strong winds.

The storms are expected to diminish by Tuesday morning, leaving behind warm temperatures near 80 degrees. However, a significant cool down is anticipated mid-week, with strong winds and plummeting temperatures. Morning lows in the 40s are forecast for the city, dropping as low as 35 degrees in north shore areas, potentially bringing the first frost of the season. By Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, highs will only reach around 65 degrees. Warmer weather is expected to return by Sunday.

Residents are urged to stay informed and monitor weather updates closely. Be prepared for potential power outages and take necessary precautions to protect property and personal safety.
