Sat Nov 23 01:30:00 UTC 2024: **Bengaluru Hospital Launches Bystander Bleeding Control Training Program**

**Bengaluru, November 23, 2024** – Aster RV Hospital in Bengaluru has launched an “Active Bleeding Control” (ABC) campaign to train bystanders in providing essential first aid to stop bleeding at accident sites. Inspired by the success of a similar program in Hyderabad, which has reportedly saved over 163 lives, the initiative aims to empower community members to respond effectively before professional help arrives.

The program, run by the hospital’s volunteer group, has already trained over 200 volunteers in BTM Layout, including students who have pledged to assist until emergency services arrive. The urgency stems from alarming statistics showing that a significant percentage of child fatalities from unintentional injuries, many near schools, occur before reaching medical care.

Dr. Sujatha Thyagarajan, senior consultant at Aster RV Hospital, emphasized the critical need for immediate intervention to control bleeding, highlighting the often fatal delay before professional help arrives. The free training program teaches six essential steps to stop bleeding and emphasizes the importance of proactive action over hesitation or filming incidents.

Hanumantha, head of GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) Green Health services, underscored the time-sensitive nature of emergencies and praised the ABC campaign for equipping communities with life-saving skills. The program’s “multiplier effect” is expected to create a wide network of trained responders, improving safety around schools and neighborhoods.
