**Sangaredi, Telangana:** The Hyderabad Regional Development Authority (HRDA) Commissioner, A.V. Ranganath, today inspected Ameenpur municipality’s lakes following complaints of encroachments. Locals had recently filed complaints with the HRDA alleging land grabbing around Pedda Cheruvu (Big Lake), Kotta Cheruvu (New Lake), and Shambhunikunta. These complaints specifically named former MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy, citing encroachments in Padmavathi and Venkatarama colonies.
Following the inspection, Ranganath addressed the media, confirming the encroachments and assuring residents that a survey will be conducted to rectify the situation. He stated that the HRDA’s primary goal is the restoration of lakes and preventing encroachments on roads and parks. He offered assurance to those affected by the Pedda Cheruvu submergence, stating the HRDA would support them.
Numerous complaints were received regarding the Pedda Cheruvu, including allegations that the blocking of sluice gates and weirs has increased the Flood Threat Level (FTL). Ranganath announced that a special technical team will survey these claims. He committed to presenting findings within three months, following discussions with the government based on the survey report.
