Fri Nov 22 21:16:43 UTC 2024: ## Kala Bhairava Jayanthi to be Celebrated on November 23rd
**Chennai, Tamil Nadu** – Kala Bhairava Jayanthi, also known as Bhairavashtami, a significant day for worshipping Kala Bhairava, falls on November 23rd, 2023 (Saturday). Kala Bhairava, one of the 64 forms of Lord Shiva, is considered the guardian deity of all Shiva temples, particularly in Kashi. He is also revered as the deity of time.
Devotees believe worshipping Kala Bhairava on this day, particularly during the waning moon’s Ashtami, offers protection from evil forces and alleviates suffering. This year, the Ashtami Tithi begins at 10:31 PM on November 22nd and ends at 11:45 PM on November 23rd.
The day is considered auspicious for overcoming debts, enemy troubles, misfortunes, and prolonged hardships. It is believed that Kala Bhairava was born on the waning moon’s Ashtami in the Karthikai month, hence the celebration of Kala Bhairava Jayanthi. It is believed that worshipping Kala Bhairava on this day can change one’s destiny, transforming bad times into good fortune.
Devotees are encouraged to wake up early, bathe, clean their homes, and offer prayers to Kala Bhairava, either through an image or by worshipping Lord Shiva’s image. Offerings of sweets and spiced vadas are recommended, along with the recitation of Kala Bhairava ashtakam and mantras. Lighting lamps in the evening and reciting the Kala Bhairava Gayatri Mantra 108 times is also considered auspicious. Visiting a temple and offering a four-faced lamp (using four wicks) is also a significant part of the celebration. Feeding dogs, Kala Bhairava’s vahana (vehicle), is also seen as a way to gain his blessings.
The following mantras are recommended for recitation 108 times:
* Om Kala Bhairavay Namah
* Om Kala Kalaya Vidmahe! Kala Hasthaya Dhimahi Tanno Kala Bhairava Prachodayat
Participating in these rituals is believed to bring immense benefits and divine grace.
