Fri Nov 22 14:37:19 UTC 2024: ## West Indies Aim to End Year on High Against Bangladesh

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Facing disappointment after a recent series loss to South Africa and a low ranking in the ICC World Test Championship, the West Indies cricket team is determined to turn things around in their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The series, starting Friday, is seen as crucial for boosting team morale before a tour of Pakistan next year.

Head coach Andre Coley highlighted the importance of a victory against Bangladesh, emphasizing the need to recover from the August defeat to South Africa. “Coming off of the disappointment of the South Africa series…we have this opportunity against Bangladesh,” Coley stated. He stressed the significance of the series in the context of the World Test Championship, noting that the Pakistan tour comprises the final four Test matches of the current cycle. “It is very important for us to do well here, win the series, and get momentum heading into Pakistan,” he added.

The West Indies squad, led by Kraigg Braithwaite and missing star all-rounder Jason Holder, blends experienced players with emerging talent. Coley believes this series offers a perfect platform for the team to demonstrate their capabilities in Test cricket. He pointed to past successes against Bangladesh and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well. “It’s an opportunity for senior players and emerging players…to show what we are capable of as a team,” he said. The team aims to finish the year on a positive note, building on progress made over the past year and a half.
