**Tirupati, November 21, 2024** – The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will establish its own Urban Development and Town Planning wing to oversee the sustainable development of the Tirumala hills, Executive Officer J. Syamala Rao announced Thursday. Addressing a media conference, Mr. Rao highlighted the need for a comprehensive vision document to guide development in the eco-sensitive area, which falls under the Seshachalam Biosphere Reserve.
He criticized existing constructions on the hills as ad hoc and lacking in spiritual ethos, citing poorly planned cottages and guesthouses built over the past decade. Future development, he stated, will prioritize smart infrastructure, including multi-level parking facilities and pedestrian-friendly footpaths to accommodate the large number of pilgrims. Renovation of the APSRTC bus station is also planned.
To guide this transformation, the TTD intends to engage a senior, retired town planning officer as an advisor. The new wing aims to transform Tirumala into a model town while preserving its spiritual significance and environmental integrity.
