**Imphal, Manipur, November 22, 2024** – The Manipur unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) has formally withdrawn its support from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s government, following a recent surge in violence in the state. This action comes after the NPP’s national president officially withdrew the party’s support on November 17th.
In an advisory issued on Thursday, NPP state president N. Kayisii instructed all party members to refrain from attending any meetings convened by the Biren Singh government. The advisory also mandates that all NPP members must seek permission from either the state or national president before issuing any public statements or engaging with the media regarding this matter.
This directive follows an incident where three NPP MLAs attended a meeting called by Chief Minister Singh on November 18th. The Chief Minister himself recently chaired a meeting of ruling MLAs to condemn recent killings in Jiribam district and address the ongoing unrest. The NPP’s withdrawal significantly alters the political landscape in Manipur, amidst the continuing violence and instability.
