Fri Nov 22 14:04:50 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Assembly Election Results Awaited Amidst Conflicting Exit Polls
**Mumbai, Nov 22** – Maharashtra is on the edge of its seat awaiting the results of the 2024 Assembly elections, with counting scheduled to begin at 8 AM on November 23rd. A record voter turnout of 66.05% was recorded on November 20th, exceeding the 2019 figure by nearly five percentage points.
The election saw a fierce contest between the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti coalition and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. While several exit polls predict a second term for the Mahayuti – comprising the BJP, the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar faction of NCP – others forecast a hung assembly or even a victory for the MVA (Congress, Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena, and Sharad Pawar faction of NCP). The conflicting predictions highlight the uncertainty surrounding the final outcome.
The MVA, which won the 2019 election but was ousted mid-term following a political upheaval, is hoping to regain power. The current government was formed after Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s rebellion within the Shiv Sena, leading to an alliance with the BJP and later, the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP.
Results will be broadcast live on NDTV Profit television and its online platforms, as well as on the Election Commission’s official website, results.eci.gov.in. While exit polls offer a glimpse into potential outcomes, they are not official and their accuracy remains to be seen. The 2019 election saw a BJP win of 105 seats, Shiv Sena (then allied with BJP) winning 56, and NCP winning 54. The subsequent power struggles and alliances have significantly reshaped the political landscape of the state.
