Fri Nov 22 00:03:00 UTC 2024: ## Kolkata’s Air Quality Moderate, While Industrial Cities Struggle: West Bengal Air Quality Report

**Kolkata, November 22, 2024** – A new air quality analysis reveals a stark contrast in air quality across West Bengal, with Kolkata maintaining moderate levels while industrial cities face significant pollution challenges. The report, released by Respirer Living Sciences’ Atlas AQ platform, analyzed air quality data from November 3rd to 16th.

Kolkata recorded an average PM2.5 level of 61 µg/m³, categorized as moderate. However, industrial hubs Asansol (95.2 µg/m³) and Durgapur (96.2 µg/m³) showed significantly poorer air quality, falling into the “Poor” and upper “Satisfactory” categories respectively. Siliguri, on the other hand, enjoyed the cleanest air.

The report highlights a disparity between cities with effective urban management and those grappling with industrial and vehicular emissions. It recommends stricter emission controls for industries, improved vehicle emission standards, and increased green spaces in polluted areas.

Ronak Sutaria, founder and CEO of Respirer Living Sciences, emphasized the need for region-specific strategies. He stated that while Kolkata’s improvement is encouraging, the severe pollution in industrial centers underscores the urgent need for stricter controls and sustainable urban development. The report calls for immediate action to address the pollution crisis in West Bengal’s industrial and urban areas.
