Thu Nov 21 21:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Utah High School Football Crowns New Champions in Thrilling Championship Week

**Salt Lake City, UT –** Utah high school football concluded its season with a thrilling championship week, crowning new champions across multiple classifications. A total of three championship games were played on Thursday, featuring several rematches and high-stakes matchups. The 4A title game marked a significant milestone, crowning the 368th state champion since the first title was awarded in 1898. (A discrepancy exists between the number of games and champions due to historical ties and scheduling conflicts.)

Historically, the team scoring first has held a significant advantage, winning 72% of the 333 championship games played since 1919. This year, four of the championship games were rematches of regular-season contests, a trend seen in nearly 45% of all championship games in Utah high school football history. Notably, the team that lost the initial matchup managed to secure revenge and win the championship in approximately 35% of these rematches.

The 6A and 5A games were particularly noteworthy, as both featured “revenge” matchups where one team sought redemption after suffering its only regular season loss to the opponent. Corner Canyon, the defending 6A champion, faced Lone Peak, having previously lost to them in the regular season. In the 5A game, Bountiful aimed to repeat their regular-season victory against Roy.

Corner Canyon’s 6A victory over Lone Peak extended their dominance, marking their seventh consecutive championship game appearance – the third-longest streak in state history. Their playoff winning percentage (.838) is also the best all-time. Bountiful secured the 5A title, marking their sixth state championship win and their first since 2003. In the 4A competition, Crimson Cliffs successfully defended their title against Spanish Fork.

The games featured impressive individual and team performances, including record-breaking field goals and high-scoring offenses. Several teams achieved milestones, including Morgan’s undefeated championship season and San Juan’s fourth consecutive championship victory. Beaver also claimed their 15th state title. This year also saw a record number of 50+-yard field goals.

The championship week highlighted the intense competition and rich history of Utah high school football, concluding a season filled with remarkable athletic achievements and memorable games.
