Thu Nov 21 19:06:41 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Streamlines Land Registration Process, Reducing Costs for Citizens

**Bengaluru, November 22, 2024** – The Karnataka government announced significant reforms Thursday to simplify land registration, particularly for converted but undeveloped land. Previously, registering such land involved complicated procedures and disproportionately high taxes due to miscategorization.

The key change involves updating the Bhoomi RTC (Record of Rights, Tenancy, and Crops) portal to reflect converted but undeveloped land accurately. This integration with the Kaveri 2 registration system ensures that appropriate stamp and registration charges are levied, reducing financial burdens on citizens.

Another major hurdle – the relinquishment of roads, parks, and playgrounds in approved layouts to local bodies – has also been addressed. A new circular from the Department of Municipal Administration allows for the creation of e-khatas (electronic land records) for these assets in the name of the original landowners or developers, facilitating the transfer to local authorities and ultimately enabling the sale of plots within the layouts. These reforms are expected to significantly ease land transactions in the state.
