Fri Nov 22 08:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Former Mets Slugger Céspedes Wants a Comeback, But Only with New York

**NEW YORK, NY** – Former New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Céspedes, whose time with the team ended controversially in 2020, has expressed a desire to return to Major League Baseball – but only with the Mets. The 39-year-old made the announcement during a recent Instagram Live stream with NYM_news.

Céspedes, a key player in the Mets’ 2015 World Series run, stated unequivocally that a potential comeback would only happen in Queens. While he impressed in his initial Mets stint, posting a .287/.337/.604 slash line with 17 home runs and 44 RBIs in 57 games of the regular season in 2015, his playoff performance and subsequent years were marred by injuries and controversy.

Following a lucrative contract extension, Céspedes struggled with injuries, including a broken ankle, limiting his appearances significantly over the next five seasons. His Mets career ended abruptly in 2020 when he failed to appear for a game against the Atlanta Braves, ultimately opting out of the season.

Despite the less-than-ideal conclusion to his Mets tenure, Céspedes’ recent comments indicate a continued passion for the team. This desire for a reunion follows his appearance at Citi Field in October, where he threw out the first pitch before Game 5 of the NLCS. Whether the Mets will consider bringing back the aging slugger remains to be seen.
