**Guwahati, Assam:** Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated a series of new facilities at the state Legislative Assembly complex, blending modern technology with the region’s rich cultural heritage. The upgrades include a command and control centre, cafeteria, digital corridor, smart pole, and a striking sandstone monolith pillar representing the ancient Kachari kingdom.

CM Sarma lauded the efforts of Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary and Deputy Speaker Dr Numal Momin, along with Assembly staff, in modernizing the complex. He emphasized that the IT-enabled improvements are part of a larger initiative to preserve Assam’s cultural heritage while embracing technological advancements.

The centerpiece of the upgrades is the monolithic pillar, a replica of a Kachari Kingdom artifact, highlighting the significance of Assam’s tribal communities and their contributions to the state’s cultural identity. Sarma further underscored this commitment by mentioning the recent installation of statues honoring several tribal freedom fighters from Northeast India at the Amrit Udyan in Guwahati, and the establishment of a dedicated Department of Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture.

Sarma also celebrated recent achievements, including the recognition of Assamese as a classical language, the Charaideo Maidam’s designation as a World Heritage Site, and the growing global recognition of the Bihu dance. He highlighted plans to elevate the Jhumur dance to international prominence, solidifying Assam’s position as a culturally vibrant region.
