Fri Nov 22 13:38:34 UTC 2024: ## Gokulam Kerala FC Aim for Third I-League Title and ISL Promotion
**Hyderabad:** Gokulam Kerala FC kicks off their I-League campaign with a crucial match against Sreenidhi Deccan FC on Friday at 4:30 PM in Hyderabad’s Deccan Arena. The match marks a clash between two strong contenders, with both teams vying for the I-League title and a coveted spot in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Last season saw Gokulam finish third behind champions Mohammedan SC, with Sreenidhi Deccan securing second place. Their previous encounters resulted in one win each, setting the stage for a highly anticipated, evenly matched contest.
Gokulam, under Spanish coach Antonio Rueda, have been training for three months, assembling a formidable squad blending experienced Indian players with international talent. Notable additions include Spanish striker Abelardo (formerly of Barcelona B), Uruguayan player Martin Chavez, and Malian striker Adama. Veteran players like VP Suhair, Michael Soosairaj, Mashur Sheriff, Salam Ranjan, and goalkeeper Shibin will support rising stars Emil Benny, Rahul Raju, Tharpyoy, Athul, and Nithin. The 24-member squad boasts 11 players from Kerala.
Sreenidhi Deccan also presents a strong challenge, with a powerful attacking line-up featuring Brazilian strikers William Alves and Kian Luis, and Colombian player David Castaneda. Their defense, featuring Eli Sabi, Shahbaz, Pawan Kumar, and Sajith, is equally formidable.
