Thu Nov 21 18:59:28 UTC 2024: ## Uttar Pradesh to Hike Honorarium for 1.5 Lakh Shikshamitras
**Lucknow, [Date]** – The Uttar Pradesh government is poised to increase the honorarium for approximately 150,000 Shikshamitras (para-teachers) working in primary schools across the state. The education department has submitted a proposal to the finance department seeking approval for the hike, which is expected to take effect before the new year.
The announcement follows a contempt petition filed in the Allahabad High Court regarding the Shikshamitras’ honorarium. During a Tuesday hearing, the state’s lawyer informed the court that a report had been sent to the finance department for approval, acknowledging the increased financial burden on the state treasury. Currently, Shikshamitras receive a monthly honorarium of ₹10,000.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had previously assured Shikshamitras of addressing their demands, including honorarium hikes and transfers to their home districts, during meetings with members of the Legislative Council and representatives from Shikshamitra organizations. The increase in honorarium is expected to be implemented after CM Adityanath approves the proposal.
