**Vijayawada, November 20, 2024** – Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha today accused the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of attempting to politicize the recent devastating floods in Vijayawada, alleging that mismanagement during their previous tenure exacerbated the disaster. Speaking in the Legislative Council, she criticized YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for failing to address the plight of flood-affected residents, who were trapped for 20 days.

The minister highlighted the unprecedented rainfall – 36 cm, 800% above normal levels – and the government’s subsequent relief efforts. These included establishing 294 relief camps and 1,715 medical camps, distributing aid to over 1.5 million families, and utilizing drones and helicopters for delivery to stranded individuals. The floods caused extensive damage: 24,000 hectares of crops, 12,000 hectares of horticulture, over 90,000 livestock, and 672 aquaculture units were lost. Furthermore, 98,662 houses were impacted and 665 km of roads were damaged. The death toll stands at 43.

The government, Minister Anitha stated, has disbursed ₹304 crore in relief funds, including ₹204 crore for housing reconstruction. She lauded Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, emphasizing his use of technology and his 11-day stay at the Vijayawada Collectorate overseeing the relief operations.
