Thu Nov 21 16:00:01 UTC 2024: ## Ukraine Strikes Deep Inside Russia with British-French and US Missiles

**Moscow/Kyiv** – Ukraine has used both US-supplied ATACMS and British-French-made Storm Shadow missiles to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. This is according to multiple reports, including Russian military blogs and Western media outlets.

The use of the Storm Shadow missiles was confirmed indirectly by a Ukrainian official speaking anonymously to Reuters, and reported by British media. While Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov declined to confirm their use, he stated that Ukraine “is using all the means to defend our country.” The UK and French Ministries of Defense have not yet commented.

A Russian military blogger posted photos of what appears to be a Storm Shadow missile fragment in the Kursk region, approximately 35 miles from the Ukrainian border. A weapons expert confirmed the authenticity of the fragment. Additionally, CNN verified a video showing explosions in the same village on the same day.

The Storm Shadow strikes followed Tuesday’s use of eight US-made ATACMS missiles, which two US officials confirmed targeted a Russian weapons arsenal in Bryansk. These officials stated that the attack, despite Russian claims of minimal damage, successfully damaged the ammunition depot, with evidence of secondary explosions. Russia claimed to have intercepted several of the missiles. The Biden administration had previously authorized Ukraine to use ATACMS within Russian territory.

While Ukraine has yet to officially confirm the use of either missile system, President Zelensky previously alluded to possessing long-range capabilities. The attacks represent a significant expansion of the conflict, pushing the fighting deeper into Russia and potentially signaling a new phase in the war.
