The footage appears to depict Kakrauli police station SHO Rajiv Sharma brandishing a pistol and threatening women who were going to vote.
Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has called for the immediate suspension of the officer, demanding an investigation into the incident. He shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the Election Commission (EC) should take swift action against the officer for deterring voters from exercising their democratic right.
Numerous social media users echoed Yadav’s concerns, condemning the alleged intimidation as a blatant violation of electoral norms and a stain on the democratic process. One user, Qamrul Akhtar, described the incident as a “blot on democracy,” calling for accountability.
Yadav, addressing a press conference in Lucknow, warned officials against such actions, asserting that those found guilty would face job loss, pension forfeiture, and potential legal repercussions.
