**Salem, Tamil Nadu – November 21, 2024** – Two Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) officials were arrested today by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department in Salem for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe.
Commercial Inspector Mani and foreman Radhakrishnan, both stationed at the Mallamooppampatti Tangedco office, were apprehended after accepting ₹4,000 from a resident, Manivannan. Manivannan had applied for a new electricity connection after adding a floor to his house, but the meter box was not installed despite paying all necessary fees. The officials demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 and ₹1,000 respectively to expedite the process. After negotiating, they settled on ₹4,000.
Suspecting bribery, Manivannan contacted the Vigilance department, who set a trap. The officials were caught red-handed accepting the bribe. Both were subsequently arrested, charged, and remanded to prison. A case has been registered against them.
