Thu Nov 21 10:44:02 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu Leverages AI to Upskill Students Through “Naan Mudhalvan” Scheme

**Chennai, November 21, 2024** – The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) is utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to bridge the skill gap and enhance the employability of students through its flagship “Naan Mudhalvan” scheme, according to Managing Director Innocent Divya. Speaking at The Hindu AI Summit 2024, Divya highlighted the scheme’s focus on providing industry-relevant training and emerging technology skills.

Key challenges identified include the digital divide and a shortage of qualified trainers. To overcome these, TNSDC collaborates with academic institutions and industries. The lack of standardized textbooks for emerging technologies, such as electric vehicle technology, is also being addressed.

Addressing concerns about communication skills, Divya noted that AI tools customized in regional languages are helping overcome language barriers. A two-credit course focusing on communication and soft skills has been integrated into the curriculum. The program also includes AI training, with nearly 34,000 students across the state receiving training in tools like prompt engineering and generative AI.

The TNSDC has launched an AI-powered chatbot, “Ilaya,” to analyze job market trends and inform curriculum development. Future plans include incorporating workplace AI simulation models into the curriculum. The increasing demand for AI integration in teaching from faculty members further emphasizes the growing role of AI in education within the state. The summit itself is a collaborative effort involving several organizations, including SRMIST, Sify, and the Confederation of Indian Industry.
