**New York, NY – October 26, 2024** – Microsoft announced at its Ignite 2024 event that Windows 11 will be available on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S VR headsets, starting with a public preview in December. Users will be able to access Windows either through a local PC or via cloud-based Windows 365, with Microsoft claiming connection times will be measured in seconds.
The experience, showcased in a teaser video, promises a “private, high-quality, large, multi-monitor workstation” within the headset. Applications will be supported through Microsoft’s “Volumetric Apps” program, allowing for 3D app experiences. Developers can now sign up to access the API for creating plugins for existing and new 3D Windows apps.
This collaboration builds upon Meta’s push for open-source capabilities and follows earlier hints, including Meta’s support for Xbox Cloud Gaming on the Quest Pro and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s suggestion of an Xbox-themed Quest headset.
