**Hyderabad, November 21, 2024** – Telangana’s Health Department has reported 447 confirmed cases of chikungunya in 2024, based on 13,320 samples tested. While the majority of cases (317) occurred during the monsoon months of August and September, officials confirmed no fatalities.

The data, released by the Director of Health and Family Welfare, follows a recent Level 2 travel advisory issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for travelers returning from Telangana.

According to the department, cases peaked in September with 183 reported infections, followed by 134 in August. Other monthly totals included: three each in January and February; 20 in March; five in April; eight in May; four in June; one in July; 74 in October; and 12 in November (through November 19th).

The department highlighted proactive measures taken, including intensified surveillance, district coordination meetings, effective mosquito control, and readily available testing kits and medicines. Weekly and monthly reports on chikungunya cases are also being shared with the Government of India to ensure coordinated efforts in combating the disease.
