**Chennai, November 21, 2024** – A special court in Chennai has sentenced six members of a family to three years imprisonment for defrauding at least three land buyers. The family, led by 52-year-old Duraivel, was found guilty of cheating buyers out of a 36-cent plot of land in Madhavaram.
The scam involved the family repeatedly selling the same property to multiple buyers. One buyer, Govindaraj, filed a complaint with the Central Crime Branch after paying ₹20 lakh for the land, only to discover the family had already accepted payments from two others, totaling ₹27 lakh. The court, after hearing the case, convicted all six family members involved in the fraudulent scheme.
