**Mumbai, November 21, 2024** – The Indian rupee remained unchanged at 84.42 against the US dollar in early trading today, despite fluctuating crude oil prices and a weak performance in domestic equity markets. While a weaker US dollar offered some support, the rupee was countered by persistent foreign fund outflows, according to forex traders.
The rupee opened at 84.41 and briefly dipped to 84.42 before settling at the previous day’s closing rate. The foreign exchange market was closed on Wednesday due to Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The dollar index, measuring the US dollar against six other major currencies, fell 0.11% to 106.49. Brent crude oil futures rose 0.22% to $72.97 per barrel.
Domestically, the Sensex fell 0.51%, dropping 398.45 points to 77,179.93, while the Nifty declined 0.58%, losing 136.10 points to settle at 23,382.40. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling spree, offloading shares worth ₹3,411.73 crore on Tuesday.
