Thu Nov 21 09:13:22 UTC 2024: **Renegades Captain Returns as WBBL Finals Push Intensifies**
Hobart, Tasmania – Melbourne Renegades captain Sophie Molineux is set to return from a knee injury for Thursday’s crucial WBBL clash against the Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena. The match is a pivotal encounter for both teams, with the Renegades currently second and the Hurricanes fourth on the WBBL ladder.
Molineux’s return is a significant boost for the Renegades, who have faced recent batting woes. The all-rounder missed the last four matches due to knee soreness, sustained after a stellar performance that included a 4-17 bowling spell and a 64-run knock. Her absence coincided with injuries to other key players, including Emma de Broughe (ankle) who is out for the tournament, and opener Courtney Webb (back), who is recovering but named in the squad for Thursday’s match.
Adding to the Renegades’ strength, English young gun Grace Scrivens will make her WBBL debut. Scrivens replaces Alice Capsey, who was called up for England’s T20I tour of South Africa. The highly touted 21-year-old has a strong record in domestic English cricket, culminating in a Player of the Tournament award at the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
The Renegades will be hoping Molineux and Scrivens’ additions will provide the firepower needed to secure a top-four finish as the regular season winds down.
