**Mumbai, India –** The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is embroiled in controversy after a forged letter purportedly endorsing the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate in the high-profile Worli constituency emerged on Wednesday. MNS President Raj Thackeray vehemently denied authoring the letter, alleging it was a ploy by the Shiv Sena to gain votes.
The letter, which surfaced online and social media, claimed the MNS would support the Shiv Sena candidate in Worli in exchange for the Shiv Sena not fielding a candidate in the Sewri constituency. This alleged support created tension between MNS and Shiv Sena supporters in some parts of Worli.
MNS General Secretary Sandeep Deshpande, the MNS candidate in Worli, accused local Shiv Sena Shakha Pramukh Rajesh Kusale of orchestrating the forgery. Both Deshpande and Thackeray have filed complaints with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the police.
Adding to the MNS’s woes, their candidate in Murtizapur, Bhikaji Shrawan Awchar, unexpectedly declared support for the BJP candidate, causing outrage among party workers. Awchar has since gone incommunicado.
The MNS is contesting approximately 128 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and hopes to play a kingmaker role in forming the next government. However, these recent events have cast a shadow on their campaign. The party is determined to expose the alleged conspiracies and regain momentum in the final stages of the election.
