Thu Nov 21 04:43:11 UTC 2024: **Maharashtra Election Sees Record Turnout, Both Alliances Claim Victory**

MUMBAI, INDIA – Maharashtra witnessed a record voter turnout in the recently concluded state assembly elections, surpassing even the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Preliminary figures indicate a voter turnout exceeding 65%, the second highest since 1995 (71.69%). This surpasses the 61.39% recorded in both the 2019 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Both major alliances, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the Mahayuti, are claiming victory based on this high turnout. The MVA, comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP, and Mahayuti, consisting of BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP (a different faction), engaged in intense campaigning leading up to the election. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, representing Mahayuti, linked the high turnout to BJP’s political advantage. Congress chief Nana Patole, on the other hand, asserted MVA’s victory, emphasizing the public’s desire for a government prioritizing state welfare and predicting Congress’s emergence as the largest party.

The increase in voter numbers, from 8.85 crore in 2019 to 9.69 crore now, also plays a significant role in determining the election results. The final results are eagerly awaited.
